Hey sharif
How's the family and kids? I've been following you guy since 2008. I'm going to Salvador this summer for a couple of months. I would like to know any tips on Salvador like good places to chow, hang out, cultural events, the do's and don'ts of that part of Brazil and where not to go. - Sunday

Peace, glad to hear from you.
You know summer here is the rainy season there right? So the weather isn't as good as far as being able to do a lot and go to the beach.
Barra (pronounced baha) is the best neighborhood to stay in for your first trip. It's right in the thick of everything. Definitely try acaraje, you will see people selling it on the streets, try to get it from the ladies wearing the traditional clothing b/c they will have the best ones. Pretty much as long as you stay in Barra you don't have to worry about where to hang or anything else b/c it is all going on right there or walking distance.
There is this jazz concert that is real fun. They have it on Saturdays. It's called Jam no MAM. Tourists don't know about it but it is real cool to check out. There is this neighborhood called Rio Vermelho. On Friday or Saturday evenings right next to the catholic church is a house of candomble and they have this ceremony. Then a few hours later that whole spot starts popping as they have live music and just a lot going on in general.
You can pretty much do whatever you want to. Just don't be stupid. Don't go down any dark alleys but other than that you don't have to dress down or any of the stuff you might hear white people say. Don't pay attention to anything you might have heard or read from white travelers.
Have a great time! - Tuesday

What you didn't like about living there? I met a dude in London from São Paulo told me not to move to Brazil. I've heard mixed thing. I know the states is the best country materialisticly. I say when it comes to capitalism it's a all you can eat buffet. I still don't like it here tho. - Sharif Ali
Living there made me realize how good we have it here. It's nice to visit but it's not all it's cracked up to be. I hated how far back our people were there in the power structure. We have no idea how good we have it here. We are the cream of the crop and there is no other place on earth that that has black people in a better position to succeed than in the United States.
The infrastructure of the country sucks, they don't build for the future only for the immediate now so things that are important like pipes, carpentry, electricity, water, and shelter are not built to last.
I have children and it would not be the best option for them or me at all. The education system was not up to par. I would have had to pay a lot of money to send my children to a elite (for Brazil) private school that would have been inferior to the public schools here in America. Seriously. A lot of things that we complain about here are way worse for most people in the world.
I would just visit Brazil in the future. I'll travel all over the world and go to places like Jamaica, Egypt, Fiji, you name it. But unlike many people that go on vacation and talk about how they want to live there I will be like hell no. In the back of my mind I would know that those places are only good in small doses. It's also the last place you want to be if shit really hit the fan b/c it's already in bad shape.
Kind of like how devastated Haiti was when the earthquake hit, mostly because the infrastructure was already shaky. I witnessed this in Brazil b/c whenever there was a heavy rain, hundreds of poor people died b/c their houses weren't built to any kind of building codes and they would just fall apart in mud slides or something.
The damn water was brown coming out of the faucet sometimes. I guess I'm spoiled b/c I had never seen anything like that before.
I could go on but I won't. Check out this article.

It is a great place to visit though. Especially Salvador, because it is the heart of Afro Brazilian culture. Even Brazilians go there to vacation and experience it. But as for living. Hell no, whenever I talked to a Brazilian who was educated they thought I was crazy for moving there.

That's what most people say. Even some parts of Europe was lacking. We've got everything. Comedian Patrice oneal said I love a country that treats me like dog sh#t because the rest of the world sucks. The poor here are rich.Even in the projects. - Sharif Ali
very true and Patrice knew what he was talking about b/c he traveled the worldPlus noone has as much flavor as this country and not just us, even though we are the greatest. All the different cultures here make this place so dynamic. And we actually do have the freedom to do and say whatever the hell we want.
- Sharif Ali
I was talking mad shit about America too but have a better understanding from living overseas for a minute - Friday

Sounds like you wanted off the nebuchadnezzar and wanted to get plugged back in. I'm joking you saw the real world.

On the real though I wasn't as enlightened as I thought I was until I actually put in some years living south of the equator. Now I can make the most of the opportunities that we have here. Man these projects are like penthouses. They don't have anything like that not just in Brazil, but everywhere outside of the US and Europe.
The poor build their houses themselves, not the gov't, and they have to cut corners b/c of low education and resources. They suffer in the long run. Plus they don't have grants and gov't backed student loans like we do man. We have no reason not to succeed. Not you and me personally but people in general, especially our people.
Man the universities in Brazil have so few black students it is appalling. I don't even want to think about it b/c it was backwards as hell. We got it made here, police shootings and all. Trust me they gun niggers down in Brazil but it doesn't make the news or start a protest b/c nobody cares. They have no voice. Hope it doesn't sound like I am downing that place or anywhere else but it's true.
- Danny Chances
I think we should share because a lot of these militant group think other wise. Stop talking about what "the man" is doing and start doing for yourself and your community. American Caucasians don't care about us, not even other cultures care about us. They care about themselves, we don't!
We as black Americans need to stop complaining and get of the madea shit and build up our community like everybody else. Blacks in Europe have their shit together. It's no such thing a as sophisticated brother or a alternative brother over there. I stayed in the hoods of London. I didn't see not one saggy pants the women were nice, black people in German, UK, and France also the Netherlands carried themselves in a respectful manner.
I was looking for niggers I couldn't find them I know that there are some the ones who try to emulate us but that is very few. They have their own shit. And we or not on the bottom the fucking Romanians and Pakistanis are. - Today
- Sharif Ali
Wow, yeah that's real. We are in the best position to succeed and we still got a lot of people playing games out here. That's crazy too because we have influence worldwide. - Danny Chances
We influence entertainment. Them kats in Europe ain't trying to be like us. Them brothaz and sistaz especially in the UK are fresh off the enterprise.
- Sharif Ali
Check this note out I wrote a while back. People have no idea how much power we are working with. https://www.facebook.com/notes/sharif-ali/black-americans-moors-if-we-were-a-nation-wed-be-the-10th-largest-in-the-world-g/764290513634991 - Danny Chances
That stuff about you told me about Brazil man got me in tears. But that's not the first time I've heard that about Brazil. I thought it was second world not third. - Sharif Ali
They were trying to sell the idea that the country was moving up and for the most part they are on the rise but it is in baby steps.
- Sharif Ali
This country is set up for people to succeed. A lot of these dumb asses out here are going on about how its against the black man and all that shit but I'm not hearing any of that mess because if you are about the business you can come up in America from broke as hell to being a millionaire. - Sharif Ali
Then there's no excuse because anyone that wants to can get a good education and go to college, learn trades, plus there is so many people that are based here that teach people the mindset needed to be high achievers. Can you imagine how hard it would be to turn around the poverty consciousness in a place like India where you have people living in the slums?
- Sharif Ali
And they really have the odds stacked against themPlus their gov't didn't build projectsThey live in houses made out of trash - Sharif Ali
ExactlyWe got it made. People need to open their eyes and see it for what it really is. Stop squandering the opportunity
- Danny Chances
I like other cultures come here come up and bounce. Like I got homies from Saudi Arabia and China that came here. Worked they ass off and got that masters doing security and taxi driving. Then cashed out and went home.I mean I like how - Danny Chances
I wish I could tell my ex that she stuck on some 5er bs. With this broke ass "God". I've met more broke 5ers out of any other black consciousness group. - Danny Chances
The only one I'll listen to is supreme understanding. His books helped me to where I am today. How to hustle to win vol 1, 2, 3, got me out of Detroit. - Sharif Ali
Yeah, I feel you on that. The poor righteous teacher thing is played out. But on the positive side nobody is trying to hear that poor $#@! anymore, especially not the youngsters. Most of them want money so they can live the good life.
Yeah I respect him too, I had some of his books and didn't even know he was one of my friend's on here.
- Danny Chances
But the thing about these zeta kids. They smart as hell. None religious they can see through the bullshit. These black nerd kids are packed full of information. Why wasn't millennials like this. I feel like I was born ten years to late. - Sharif Ali
Word, they were born in the information age. They have to be given a focus early or they start to take that stuff for granted b/c everything is so easy for them. They don't have to go to a library or anything. - Danny Chances
They can code, read a book, chat with a kid from China, blog, play Xbox, do homework all at the same time. They Don't believe in any God. They be like mom get outta here with that bs ain't no god. I've heard and seen it with my own little cousins. American Black kids who are atheist that is unheard of. And they want to look "normal".
